TLSS Partner Brian C. Bassett was recently featured in the August, 2018 edition of CLM Magazine to provide guidance on emerging cyber threats.
As part of the magazine's regular "Between the Lines" feature, CLM Magazine asked for advice on where tomorrow's cyber threats will be coming from. Bassett, who was one of four individuals interviewed. pointed out that data thefts steal much of the cyber spotlight in the media, while malicious data manipulation actually poses one of the greatest threats to business.
Bassett represents insurance companies in complex claim disputes and declaratory judgment actions involving the interpretation of standalone cyber policies and endorsements affording data breach coverage. He has authored articles discussing the scope of coverage provided by cyber policies and is a frequent speaker on cyber coverage topics, including federal and state data breach notification laws. He is also is a regular contributor to TLSS' Cyber Law Blog.
As part of the feature, CLM Magazine also pointed out several staggering statistics on cyber threats. For instance, the global estimated cost of cybercrime is estimated to be $6 trillion. Attacks on connected devices, such as printers, home appliances, thermostats, and more are up 600% from 2016 to 2017 alone. According to the Ponemon Institute, the average cost of a cyberattack on small- and medium-sized business in 2017 is $2.2 million.
