On May 23-24, Traub Lieberman Partner Ryan Jones provided testimony before a Florida Senate Committee on Appropriations (3:02:45) and the House Appropriations Committee (2:31:29) during a Special Session to address the Florida insurance crisis. In his testimony before the Senate Committee, Mr. Jones provided an overview of a case he is currently handling, which shows the need for the amendments contained within SB 2D. This example highlighted the positive impact that the bill’s passage would have for the Florida insurance industry. In his testimony before the House Committee regarding HB 1D, Mr. Jones addressed the frequency of demands for multipliers in cases he has handled which—if awarded—increase settlement costs above and beyond plaintiff compensation and reasonable attorney’s fees. He also clarified the role of bad faith suits and the impact of the proposed legislation on those suits for the understanding of the committee.
